What is Guidance & Counselling?
Guidance and Counselling is the study of helping individuals navigate personal, educational, and career challenges through professional counselling techniques. It covers counselling theories, assessment methods, group dynamics, crisis intervention, and ethical practice — preparing graduates to support people through mental health challenges, life transitions, and decision-making processes.
In Malaysia, counselling is a regulated profession under the Counsellors Act 1998 (Act 580). Only registered counsellors with the Malaysian Board of Counsellors can practise professionally. This regulation ensures high standards and creates a clear career pathway for graduates who complete the required academic qualifications and supervised practice hours.
