What is Pharmacy?
Pharmacy is the science of medicines — from their discovery and development to their safe dispensing and clinical use. A Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) programme covers pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, clinical pharmacy, and pharmaceutical technology. You learn how drugs interact with the human body, how to formulate medications, and how to advise patients and healthcare teams on safe, effective drug therapy.
Pharmacists play a critical role in healthcare, working in community pharmacies, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, regulatory agencies, and research institutions. In Malaysia, graduates must register with the Pharmacy Board Malaysia and complete a Provisionally Registered Pharmacist (PRP) training period before practising independently.
Why Study Pharmacy?
Essential role in patient safety
Pharmacists are the last line of defence before a patient takes medication — ensuring correct dosage, checking for drug interactions, and preventing adverse effects.
Diverse career paths beyond retail
Beyond community pharmacies, pharmacists work in hospitals, pharmaceutical R&D, regulatory affairs, clinical trials, academia, and the cosmetics industry.
Growing pharmaceutical industry in Malaysia
Malaysia's pharmaceutical market is valued at over RM 8 billion and growing. The government's push for local drug manufacturing creates strong demand for qualified pharmacists.
Stable income with professional status
Pharmacists enjoy professional recognition, regulated practice, and competitive salaries — with opportunities to own and operate their own pharmacy business.
