In a shining display of talent and dedication, Monash University Malaysia's School of Pharmacy recently made waves at the National Pharmacists Convention (NPC), organised by the Malaysian Pharmacists Society. This prestigious event, a highlight in the pharmacy calendar, serves as a pivotal platform for advancing professional knowledge and fostering innovation in the field.
This year's NPC was marked by dynamic discussions on pressing issues such as medication security, pharmacists' evolving roles, and the critical challenges of medication shortages and surpluses. Presenters highlighted the need for adaptive strategies and collaborative approaches, with a special focus on integrating new technologies and best practices to improve healthcare outcomes.
Among the standout contributors from Monash University Malaysia was Dr Yeap Li Ling, who brought home accolades that underscore both personal and institutional excellence. Dr Yeap's presentation on innovative approaches in pharmacy practice earned her 1st place for Best Oral Presentation and 2nd place for Best Poster Presentation. Her projects, which ranged from using generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education to tackling medication waste, were celebrated for their timeliness and relevance, reflecting a deep understanding of current challenges and opportunities within the field.

Their collective work, which embraced the theme ‘Pharmacy of the Future: Embracing Innovative Practices,’ highlights the school’s commitment to pioneering advancements in pharmacy.
The NPC also celebrated the remarkable achievements of Tan Hui Yen, recognised as the Best Pharmacist Student at Monash University Malaysia, and Dr Yen Jun Wong, who added an element of serendipity by winning the lucky draw. These awards not only honour individual accomplishments but also reflect the high calibre of talent nurtured at Monash University Malaysia.
The convention served as an inspiring reminder of the evolving role of pharmacists, who are increasingly contributing beyond traditional dispensing roles. Discussions at the NPC centred on the future of pharmacy, including the integration of digital tools and expanded responsibilities such as vaccination and medication management.
Looking ahead, the recognition gained at NPC positions Monash University Malaysia's School of Pharmacy at the forefront of innovation in pharmacy education and practice. The team’s future projects and initiatives will undoubtedly build on this success, driving further advancements and continuing to set benchmarks in the field.
As we celebrate these achievements, we look forward to future conventions and opportunities to further showcase our dedication to excellence and our commitment to shaping the future of pharmacy.
