Guide to PTPTN Loan

What is PTPTN?

The National Higher Education Fund (Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi National, PTPTN) was set up with the purpose of providing education loans to students pursuing their studies at local higher education institutions (HEIs). This education loan will allow students to fully or partially pay their fees or the duration of their study. At the same time, it opens up more opportunities for all students to pursue higher education.

Are you eligible for PTPTN?

The conditions for applying for an education loan are as follows:

Malaysian citizen;
Must be 45 years and below at the time of application;
Have an offer to study at IPTA / IPTS and Polytechnics;
Courses attended by IPTA / IPTS and Polytechnics must be approved by the Ministry of Education Malaysia and registered with PTPTN; *
For private HEI students, they must pursue courses that have obtained the Accreditation Certificate from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The course's Accreditation Certificate approval period must still be valid on the date of application;
For students with different qualifications, confirmation must be obtained from the department or agency as stated above;
The remaining period of study at the time of application must not be less than one (1) year;
Has SSPN-i/SSPN-i Plus savings account with 15 digits before applying for PTPTN loan application.

What courses are eligible for PTPTN loan?

Not all courses are automatically eligible for PTPTN loan. The course that you intend to study must be accredited by MQA. Otherwise, you risk paying the entire cost of your education yourself.
Qualifications that are eligible include Diploma and Degree. You have the option of choosing either private or public institutions.
If you are looking to study Professional Courses (e.g. ACCA, ICAEW) or Postgraduate Studies (e.g. Masters, PhD), only public institutions are eligible for PTPTN loans.
While PTPTN does not cover Pre-University Courses, such as A-Levels, Australian Matriculation and Canadian Pre-University, Foundation Programmes from selected institutions, namely Multimedia University (MMU), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) and UNITAR International University (UNITAR), are eligible for PTPTN loan.

What is the interest rate of loan?

The PTPTN education loans are subject to a flat rate of Upah (Ujrah) of 1% per annum.
In addition, students are required to obtain insurance on the amount borrowed and all the premium deductions will be made on their behalf by PTPTN. All PTPTN loan borrowers will undergo an insurance deduction for the purpose of protecting their loan based on their study period and loan repayment period. The insurance deduction will be done every semester when the loans are disbursed.

JPA Scholarship - Program Khas Jepun, Korea, Perancis, Jerman	Pre-University, Bachelor’s Degree	This sponsorship programme (in the form of Convertible Study Loan) is open to all SPM leavers to further their studies in the following disciplines: Engineering, Science and Technology (S&T), and Social Sciences in either Japan, Korea, France and Germany. Students will also be sponsored to pursue preparatory programmes before advancing to Diploma or First Degree level in the above mentioned countries.
JPA Scholarship - Program Khas Lepasan Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Dalam Negara	Pre-University, Bachelor’s Degree	This sponsorship in the form of Convertible Study Loan is open to outstanding students of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with a minimum of 9A+ to pursue undergraduate programmes locally. The sponsorship also includes preparatory programmes prior to undergraduate level.
MARA Scholarship - Program Pembangunan Bakat Muda	Pre-University, Bachelor’s Degree	Young Talent Development Programme (YTP) is a sponsorship programme in the form of Convertible Study Loan under Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA). It is for excellent students who wish to continue their studies starting from the preparatory level up to first degree level at selected institutions.
MARA Scholarship - Program Pinjaman Pelajaran Tertiari	Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree	Tertiary Education Loan Program (TESP) is a form of convertible loan under Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) for STPM leavers and Matriculation/Foundation/Diploma (or equivalent) holders who have received an offer to pursue an undergraduate degree in a selected field at a selected higher education institution.
MARA Scholarship - Program Pelajar Cemerlang	Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree	The Excellent Student Program (IPMa) is specifically for excellent students from MARA Institute of Education to further their studies at diploma and first degree level locally and abroad.

Bank Negara - Kijang Scholarship	Pre-University	The Kijang Scholarship 2022 is for eligible individuals to pursue pre-university programmes at the Bank’s approved pre-university colleges. Tuition fees, subsistence allowance and related scholarship allowances are provided.
Bank Negara - Undergraduate Scholarship	Bachelor’s Degree	The Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to eligible individuals who have received offers to pursue or are currently pursuing undergraduate studies. This scholarship is inclusive of tuition fees, subsistence, and related scholarship allowances. Successful applicants will study disciplines that are related to Economics, Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Law and Computer Science.
Sin Chew Daily Education Fund	Pre-University, Bachelor’s Degree	Organised by Sin Chew Daily, this education fund provides funds for students in need of financial assistance to complete tertiary education locally and assist them in selecting free diploma/degree programs offered by domestic higher education institutions. It reflects the importance attached to the human spirit, caring for the cold and vulnerable groups and helping improve the level of social education.
Shell Malaysia Scholarship	Pre-University, Bachelor’s Degree	Since its inception, the Shell Malaysia Scholarship Programme has benefitted more than 1500 students in pursuing their educational aspirations and provided a unique entrance into the energy industry. The offering is for candidates to be sponsored 2 tiers A-levels and undergraduates in prestigious colleges and universities locally and overseas. This is subject to the scholastic performance of the student.
PETRONAS Education Sponsorship Programme	Pre-University, Bachelor’s Degree	Since 1975, PETRONAS has nurtured more than 37,000 young talents from diverse backgrounds to pursue their ambitions and help shape the future of the company, the energy industry and the nation. The sponsorship is open to students aspiring to pursue their undergraduate studies at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, local and overseas universities.
CIMB ASEAN Scholarship	Bachelor’s Degree, Postgraduate	The CIMB ASEAN Scholarship is a highly selective, full scholarship for exceptional students from ASEAN countries in which CIMB has a presence. In recognising the evolving nature of the banking industry, CIMB welcomes applicants from a wide variety of academic disciplines.
